Upcoming meetings for the spring, 2008

• Thu Apr 10th, 4-6 pm: The Anthropocene:
  Have we started a new geological Age? The Earth has left the Holocene and has entered the ANTHROPOCENE. The Anthropocene is a neologism coined by Nobel Prize Winner (Chemistry) Paul Crutzen in 1995 when describing the increasing impact humanity has on the biosphere through human population and economic developement. Is it too late to reverse these effects? What could be done?
  Join us with Professor Hannu Salmi from Heureka to discuss what is happening and what could be done!!

At autumn 2005 we discussed on economy and read several chapters of Jeffrey Sachs' book THE END OF POVERTY - How we can make it happen in our lifetime. Also, we read the web page Ten Things Debaters Should Know About Economics by Glen Whitman.

In the autumn 2004 our theme was "Environmental Success Stories", or "Positive Progress in Environmental Issues". Our aim was to see the bright side of things and study those cases which have been succesful - with a critical mind, of course.
